we got our help up there and took off. you know, it is a small community, that's like you said 150 people and may have been more than that. >> that's what you do. and kyle as we mentioned has down syndrome. what did you think the chances were of finding him? >> honestly i didn't know. it was a large. it was a very large area and it was thick and it was briars and you know, in uation like that you just don't know. i was hoping we would find him, very pleased that we found him quick as we did the next morning. >> when you found him, describe the scene. >> well, i was about a mile and half behind their house. between a mile and a mile and a half. we are talking about a very thick woods, with you know, briars and he was down in a

creek. probably about three foot deep as far as the banks in the area he was at and the pupeps at the time he was with was up on the bank and he was standing in the water, looking up at me. >> let's talk about those pupeps. as we understand it. kyle had followed the puppis and how he got lost. how did the puppies keep him alive? >> well, you know, i am sure they played a big part in it. i would imagine that you know, they did help him. his daddy told me yesterday morning that kyle said they were sleeping on his neck and chest. and i imagine that was comfort for a little boy 10 years old in cold weather in the woods in the middle of the night. i am 35 years old.

[ laughter ] second, find the biggest available straw man and then just mercily attack it. big bird didn't even see it coming. of angst about each other. and maybe some personal stuff inside about each other. >> steve: we've read that the president does not like mitt romney. >> ali: and vice-versa. >> steve: yeah. >> whether that's true or not, you didn't see it last night. that was good thing, at least for a night. >> steve: before the event there at the wail torch, the president of the united states went over to sit down for a hard hitting interview with jon stewart at the daily show and actual lea not that many laughs on the show. they did -- it was mainly serious, or more serious than normal. a lot of whooping and hollering at the beginning. at one point, jon stewart had used, first of all, the word optimal, but the president says the deaths of our ambassador and three others not optimal. dollar lot of people who now this morning are saying not optimal? that is an embarrassing word for the president of the united states to use. >> yeah. here is the question: they had been through -- stewart asked a couple of things about benghazi

and he had now gotten to the point where he was saying, was there a disconnect between the communication -- the communication between, for example, the intelligence community and susan rice? and stewart says, i would say even you would admit it was not the optimal response, at least to the american people as far as all of us being on the same page. and the president says, here is what i will say, if four americans get killed, it's not optimal. and we're going to fix it, all of it. now, immediately a lot of people went to twitter and said, what is this? you know, there was a lot of outrage. and then members of the press said, but stewart used his optimal in the question, so of course the president would phrase it that way. the problem is that just the use of that phrase with the four americans dead is a tough thing and it's -- it's tough to even

hear in the context of this time. the tougher phrase perhaps from that interview is every piece of information that we got, as we got it, we laid it out for the american people and the picture will eventually get fully filled in. that's just not the fact. >> steve: it's not. >> brian: it plays in also when he said bumps in the road when it came to the attacks. optimal, bumps in the road, a bit of a pattern there. you have a special tonight at which time you answer some questions and you sit down with lieutenant colonel wood and it turns out there is a picture being drawn here. were they able to watch this whole thing unfold in real time at the state department? >> yes. and we're going to -- this special is really something. we've worked on it -- obviously it's been a crash to get it all done and we're still working on it as we speak. we think we're going to get new documents today that may even tell us more about c.i.a.

station cables that said they thought it was islamic terrorism within 24 hours, something i reported on september 19, if you remember, within 24 hours, the intelligence community knew that it was islamic terrorists. but this hour goes into that. lieutenant colonel wood, all the warnings he put forward, and the state department, sheryl lamb, is monitoring this thing real time once it's happening, talking to the people on the ground in the operations center and the attack goes a lot longer than people think it went. >> ali: that's interesting. and we should remind people the lieutenant colonel andrew wood was one of the top security people on the ground there in libya and he was one of the people who had asked for more resources and more back up there. let's listen to a clip of you sitting down with lieutenant colonel wood. >> why do you think this request is denied? >> i don't know. i really don't know.

advantage. our political panel joins us to weigh in right now. wayne rogers is the chairman of the investment strategies firm, win m. rogers and company. bernard is a former pollster and author, and erin klein is a radio talk show host and author of "fool me twice, obama's shocking plans for four more years exposed." erin, you say you feel that this new more adepressive president is making him less likeable. >> i do. i don't think it's because of his aggressive tactics. i think it's because his divisive tactics. we're talking about class warfare. talk being gender warfare, the claim of a war on women. and just this tactic that i think is being deployed by obama deliberately and that is calling the other side liars is kind of smearing the other side as dishonest while the american people is seeing through this and taking a toll on his likeability. >> steve: i was talking to some

friends after the second debate where there was a lot of interrupting and they said, we saw mitt romney push back hard during the republican primary, but we've never seen president obama push back so sharply, and they felt he wasn't as likeable. >> i don't believe that. i think it's about time the president did push back. the only person in this debate that is engaging in dallas class warfare is mitt romney who divides the country. the truth is that thompson reuters poll shows that obama has a 22 point -- >> steve: why is the president of the united states losing right now in the national gallup poll by 7? >> i think the key polls will be two fold. one, the poll on election day and the battle ground states. the battle ground states, all the important ones had the president ahead. i think he's going to make up points from his second debate and go on it win. >> steve: wayne? >> i don't think that. i see -- when you have these instant polls right after some event or something like that, for example, last night, you know, at the dinner where both

of them were comedic as it were, they're going to both be likeable. these things pass very quickly, you know. after the first debate, of course mitt romney, you know. the terrible part about it is people think of these things as sporting convenience. somebody won or somebody lost. it's crazy. >> steve: do people vote for president based on likeability? >> i think there are some who do, yes. >> they do base more on trust. familiarity does lead to trust c. is why i think the president wins. >> steve: all right. then is going to be what the pam is talking about next. speaking of trust, new poll says small businesses are bummed out by the election and more skeptical than ever before. so which candidate canhey trust to help them get america back to work? then, imagine getting dumped and the next day your ex wins $30 million? does the ex-girlfriend deserve a

mega millions and what timing. his girlfriend dumped him the day before. how is that for pay back? no word if he'll share with her at all. steve? >> steve: i bet she wants to get back together with him real fast. maybe. small business owners are the biggest drivers of the economy, employing half of the private sector work force. so it's not surprising that both candidates made a play for these job creators during the last debate. >> i want to help small businesses grow and thrive. i know how to make that happen. >> i said i would cut taxes for small businesses who are the drivers and engines of growth and we've cut them 18 times. >> that's why everything i'll do is designed to help small businesses grow and add jobs. >> steve: but despite the rhetoric, disowners are bummed about what the future holds as 77% believe their taxes will increase next year and because of that, 67% say they don't plan on hiring anybody next year. that doesn't help unemployment.

so which candidate can restore their confidence? back with our political panel today, wayne rogers, you're in the business world. why are so many people bummed out? >> i don't think it's just that. the administration talks about helping small business. they not only have 50% of the employment, they create 80% of the new jobs in the market. the administration policies have restricted small business. they have helped big business in everything the administration does goes to foster big business. we have four banks in the united states that control over 55% of the banking aspect. >> steve: too big to fail. >> too big to exist. not too big to fail. too big to exist. so a small bank, where the borrower, lender relationship is destroyed because of the decision that's made somewhere up in washington instead of the guy who is right there in the community who knows the community, who is doing that. >> steve: they just don't have confidence about things are going to get better. >> it's nuts. it's very bad policy. the more you remove it from the

local place where it's supposed to be doing a good thing, the worst it gets 'cause the federal government knows nothing about it. they're blind to that. >> steve: all right. bernard? >> i got a news flash for small business owners and i'm one of them. the torchson reuters poll said consumer confidence skyrocketed. my message is, get with the program. look where your customers are, your customers are feeling better about the economy and with good reason. job creation is up, and housing is up. the president as i write about in my book, one of the reasons is he cut taxes for small businesses 18 times and helped infuse capital, tax cuts -- >> steve: they already expired and only temporary. i know it's your job -- >> romney wants to repeal obamacare which would force a tax hike on small businesses. >> steve: unfortunately, obamacare is going to force a lot of businesses into turning

people. >> here is what i'll say. >> yeah? >> if four americans get killed, it's not optimal. >> right. >> we're going to fix it. and -- all of it. and what happens during the course of a presidency is that the government is a big operation. at any given time, something screws up and you make sure that you find out what's broken and you fix it. >> brian: joining us now with his reaction, arizona senator john mccain. you're shaking your head. why? >> well, the optimal line, of course, is very regrettable and makes me a little sad. but for him to say that every piece of information that they got they laid out for the american people is one of the most disingenuous statements i've ever heard. we now see a piece story this morning that the station chief in libya relayed within 24 hours the assessment that it was a terrorist attack, al-qaeda

affiliated. and then five days afterwards, the white house sends out our u.n. ambassador on every one of the talk shows on sunday to say that it was a spontaneous demonstration. the president continued to say that for days afterwards and by the way, you know, you really don't have to be a c.i.a. analyst or a station chief to know an attack with mortars, rocket propelled grenades, lasted for eight hours is not a spontaneous demonstration. frankly, i could see that myself in the -- as soon as the reports came in and the video came in. so there is two real aspects of this we need to look at. one is the events leading up to the attack and the intelligence figures there, and then what clearly is either a cover-up or is gross imcompetence following it. it's leading up to it, the

consulate was attacked in april and in june. the british embassy was attacked, ambassador was attacked. red cross left. the british left. as lieutenant colonel wood said, we were the last flag in benghazi and it was inevitable in his view, there would be an attack. what did the president know -- yes? go what did the president know and why didn't he take action before it? i don't expect him to know about 16 people moved back and forth, but i expect him to know about the deteriorating situation there. that's the events before. >> steve: you would expect people at the top or near the top would know that the people on the ground in libya, before the attack, were saying, hey, we're naked here. we need more protection. >> yes. and maybe that particular request didn't get all the way to the president's desk. but the deteriorating situation there, the obvious that previous attacks in april and june, the total lack of the influx of

al-qaeda affiliated people, the president should have known about that. then afterwards, of course, to say that the president -- well, when he talked about the terrorist attack in the rose garden, clear leaves not referring to that attack. but leave that aside. why did he go on "the view"? why did he go on letterman and these other shows saying that we don't know. we don't know yet. of course we knew. of course we knew. and it is really an unacceptable situation and we need to have the information that -- the american people need the information about this and it's clear that there is a lot more layers to this onion. >> steve: absolutely. and tonight at 10:00 o'clock right here on the fox news channel, bret baier is going to try to connect as many dots as possible and also we've got that new news that you broke a moment ago that the c.i.a. chief in libya reported that within 24 hours, they knew it was not a spontaneous attack.

>> ali: susan g. komen foundation, one of the most well-known breast cancer charities has seen a drop in nearly $4 million in donations this year. is it because of the controversy earlier this year when they decided to not continue its funding for planned parenthood. then reverse course? our next guest was ousted as a top executive during that controversy and says it is absolutely connected to their loss now in money. joining us now is the author of planned bullihood, karen handle. good morning, karen. >> good morning. >> ali: so the numbers are pretty striking. this year the annual susan g. komen walk to fight breast cancer raised $3.8 million. that's impresssive. but it's nothing compared to what has been seen in previous years. last year it was $7 million. so why have we soon this significant drop, do you think? >> a couple of things. first, let's keep in mind when

komen decided against doing the planned parenthood grant, contributions were up significantly over those three days. when the organization reversed, i think there was so much attention and so many more people know about the planned parenthood grant that you're seeing an impact there. secondly, i don't think that we can discount the economic factors here. let's keep in mind that for this particular event, the komen 3 day, individual has to raise $2,300 even to participate. that's a really heavy lift in this economic climate. >> ali: sure. but let's remember that last year when the recession was also in full swing, certainly as much as this year, susan g. komen did raise 7 million. so it seems as though the controversy over what susan g. comb houston done with planned parenthood has taken its toll. >> i don't think anybody is disputing that. what i'm saying is i think it's a combination of things. komen had for some time really been instance slated from --

insulated from the economic down turn and no organization is going to be immune from that for forever and i think we're starting to see that. but secondly, when it comes to planned parenthood, the organization made a very sound business decision not to continue with grants that were deemed to be low quality grants and then in reversing a common sense decision in the best interest of women and bowing to the political pressure from planned parenthood, i think that raised a lot of questions for people. >> ali: by the way, there was so much misinformation and confusion about susan g. komen versus planned parenthood, particularly on the planned parenthood front. even just this past debate, tuesday night, where president obama once again said planned parenthood offers mammograms when, in fact, that's not really what they do. >> planned parenthood does not do mammograms. they are a middle woman, if you will, and the president had his information incorrect. but what i find interesting is that this continues to be a lie that planned parenthood wants to

[ laughter ] >> ali: roger ails, of course, is the chairman of the fox news channel. chris matthews the host msnbc. peter johnson, jr. will be on hand to share more about that very special dinner. >> steve: let's bring in geraldo rivera. >> good morning. >> steve: we got break news this morning. apparently the associated press is reporting that the c.i.a. chief in libya reported to washington that within 24 hours, they knew that the attack was not spontaneous. so the administration went on for, what, two weeks with susan rice, jay carney, even the

president saying hey, it was a video. we know it's not true. >> i put together my own likely scenario. remember i spent a week in combat with the militias. i do not believe that the libyan militias are capable. i did not see them and reported at the time that they were absolutely incapable of a planned coordinated assault. here is what i think happened and i think jives with both the detractors of the administration and some of the supporters of the administration. remember, and i hate to go back to the -- i know it raises hackles who believe the film is being used by the administration. bear with me. the film goes by on the 8th and 9th of september. we know that by the early -- on the 11th of september, september 11, in cairo, the embassy is overrun by the mob. >> steve: that was before libya attack. >> before the libya attack. i think at that point this fellow, the guy who runs the ansar sharia militia, gets the

inspiration, okay. let's take out those sobs. they have insulted the prophet by this film. now is the time. let's do it. abdul, you take it from the left. mohammed, you take it from the right. i'll go down the center with our militia. they are heavily armed armed wih mortars and all the rest. they attack. i think it's gratuitous that the ambassador is there, or maybe that might have add to do their incentive and inspiration to do it. they attack and then as the process goes on, someone says, abdul says to mohammed, what about the c.i.a. annex we all know about because all libyans work there? let's get them, too. i think that -- so i believe that a, it was related to the attack. b, it was planned day of, several hours and i think katherine herrage and the "new york times" reporting both confirm that. several hours to plan what was a rudimentary attack on three fronts, and so i think that what happened is the administration then tries to put the best face

on it because there was -- >> steve: they put a political face on it. >> there was a security failure, intelligence failure in terms of how -- just how voraciously they were and how anti-american they were. >> ali: here is the problem. >> and a pr cover-up. >> ali: your snare row rings true, but here is the problem with it. perhaps they were opportunist. however, there was no protest in benghazi. and that's where the administration went wrong. there were protests in cairo, but not benghazi, we now know, and they knew that, too. >> steve: before you talk, keep in mind there were gigantic attacks in june, in april, there at the consulate. >> not gigantic. >> steve: there was the wall was blown -- had a great big hole blown through it. i think 40 people went through it. they should have seen the writing on the wall that eventually got blown up. >> true. we don't forgive the administration for their lack of security -- >> steve: those guys might be alive today. >> we don't forgive them for the

failure of intelligence. i just point out for the record that it wasn't chest thumping about bin laden that inspired. maybe that was brewing in the background. maybe that set the climate, but it was specifically, i believe, logical now to assume it was the film that then inspired several hours of rudimentary military planning that resulted in an attack that was not in a polian. >> brian: we have the scenario. nothing begun on. we find out the state department was able to, in almost real time, view these exact events. it happened at 9:30, then 10:00 o'clock. this goes on and these guys might have been -- >> brian, i agree with you. >> brian: you know the series. >> i agree with you. >> brian: you know the globe. you know -- >> i know that city more importantly and i know those militias more importantly. >> brian: you know -- by the way, in italy, they could have scrambled people in a five hour attack to get involved. >> by then -- i believe that they were truly -- they didn't -- because of the

film-related violence elsewhere in the islamic world, they didn't know themselves what exactly was happening in benghazi. >> brian: he was begging for 15 people to stay there prior and then he was begging for help. it looks like the way this is coming together, they just let these guys be sacrificed and not showing reinstance forcements. >> the attack happened at 93:40 at night. it's black night. it's easy by the retrospect of a month to say they should have, they could have. but in the context of the violence and the larger muslim world, it was, i think, easy for them to assume and then because it fit their political narrative as steve suggests, they just we want with it. >> ali: we need to get to you weigh in on this. the "new york times" is reporting today that their reporters, the "new york times," have found the person, the suspect in benghazi. >> steve: at a hotel. >> ali: at a cafe, having coffee, in public, hiding in

plain sight. why can't the f.b.i. get him? >> well, i think that it ain't over yet, alisyn. i believe he will be gotten. but i think it's more than him. i think -- believe me, nobody wants to take out this guy more than president obama prior to the election. why? because it works, aside from the fact he pledge to do get the people that got us, it will help his reelection effort. he wants to do it. but you don't want to go -- what if katalla has 15 or 18 associates? do you really want that one arrogant militia leader? i think you want them all. what i'm suggesting is we believe that there was some political disassembling going on of the. >> steve: cover-up. >> we believe that susan rice went out there and said things, she spun it as the way she thought would politically favor the obama administration. but i also believe that there was some substance in the administration's position, i think that reasonable people can conclude that there was a

one day after., )q debate 2 hast romney with a seven-point lead over the president among most likely voters. rasmussen's latest poll closer. romney still leads, but by two points. how do you explain this? dr. larry sabato does this for a living. he joins us now on the road in that important state of virginia. dr. sabato, what do you go by? >> well, i'm really disappointed, brian, that you didn't discuss the more important numbers. not the poll numbers, they're steve doocy's actual age, which we're still waiting to hear. i hope we're going to hear that later in the show. >> brian: we're waiting on more polls to weigh in and then finally have a tally. >> then we'll is a polling average on his age. >> brian: right. >> steve: larry, brian had the best answer for my age. go ahead, brian. >> brian: i was saying gallup, 61 and rasmussen had him at 55.

>> at this point, i'm going to take rasmussen. just to make steve feel better. >> thank you. >> brian: can i talk to dr. sabato for a second? >> steve: yes, go ahead. >> steve, would you please stop interrupting. i know it's your birthday. look, on the polling numbers, first of all, look at the averages. it's really important to look at the averages. every poll is wrong some of the time for statistical reasons only. that's why we look at averages. i would say on the whole, rasmussen is closer to the mark here than gallup is. the reason i say that is that individual state polls in the key states really contradict gallup because they would have very different results if, in fact, romney was leading by seven points. don't get me wrong. the trend has been to romney. on our own electoral college map, we've got florida solidly in romney's camp. we've got north carolina solidly in romney's camp. virginia, which was leaning to obama is a toss-up and if you

made me call it today, i'd give a slight edge to romney. what does that mean? it means obama may not carry any southern states. so look, the trend is obvious. but you can argue about the numbers, look at the polling averages. >> brian: you say the significant thing is for the first time since we've been doing this, president obama is under 270. the other significant thing is we don't have a clear look at the impact of debate number two, do we? >> no. it takes days for this to work through the tracking polls. it is frustrating for those of us who like instant answers. but it's going to take a full seven days to really plot out what effect, if any, the second debate had. let's remember, historically, the first debate has the most impact. and we saw what that impact was and it was historically high. >> brian: dr. sabato, as soon as we got that, we'll be in the middle of debate number 3 on foreign policy and the unfolding information coming through benghazi could throw everything up in the air. dr. sabato, thanks so much for joining us. we look forward to talking to you, especially over the last 18

take a back seat to politics? the host of "justice," judge jeanine per rose joins us now. >> good morning. happy birthday. >> steve: thank you very much. >> ali: why is the real story of where they were so important? >> it's important for several reasons. it continues the false narrative of the white house and the president by saying that these guys were involved in the security of the ambassador, suggests we had more security there and therefore, we weren't at fault and we were on top of our game. but it gets worse. the president's narrative is then compounded by susan rice who specifically says that these two guys were there to provide security to the ambassador. >> steve: they weren't. >> they were not. that is false. and this weekend on my show, i've got an exclusive from someone who was a former seal member, a teammate of glenn dougherty who says they absolutely were not there. in fact, they were there on a stole totally separate mission. they were in the annex half a mile from the consulate. these guys are the true heros

who came, got 20 people out of that embassy, and -- or the consulate, and they're being denied their status as heros. let me tell you, these guys, one in particular that i've got on my show, has some very choice words for the administration, for hillary clinton, for the lie that they're continuing to perpetrate. >> brian: actually i understand that their job was to hunt down the shoulder fired missiles that might have been given to the rebels to overthrow gadhafi. >> we know there are 20,000 of them, the surface to air missiles that when gadhafi was run over that we've got 20,000 of them running around. and i got to tell you, i love geraldo, but with all due respect, i don't agree with anything that he said about the narrative. his theory, the bottom line is you can say whatever you want about what happened at that embassy in cairo, but what happened in libya was not spontaneous. you're not able to overtake an embassy on three sides. the add m knew it. they had the live audio. they had the video surveillance. they knew what was going on and it is a lie, it is infuriating,

horses and you land there in afghanistan on this rugged terrain going. what are we going to do? how are we going to get around? a lot of you didn't have significant training on horseback. >> that's correct. our team leader was the only one that had any training. so it was a learn as you go and another aspect that we really had to deal with was the horses were smaller there. so they were usedpsnfáke >> it's sacred ground. this is ground zero. it shows the strength of not only america, but also the special forces, the green berets and all the special operations in the united states. >> what's the motto of the green berets? >> opresso, liber.

brand-new information just this morning on the terrorist attack in benghazi. the associated press is reporting that the c.i.a. on the ground in libya told the white house within 24 hours that the attack on our consulate was not the result of a spontaneous riot. >> steve: this comes on the heels of the president appearing on the daily show to talk about it. peter doocy live in washington with a summary. peter? >> president obama told jon stewart last night that every piece of information his administration got that was tied to the terrorist attack on the consulate in benghazi was then laid out for the american people to help the public paint a picture of exactly what happened and despite his administration's sometimes confusing response to the attack, the president said he was never confused about the fact four americans were killed and he also said the facts, terrorists struck the consulate at all was not optimal. >> i would say even you would admit, it was not the optimal response, at least to the american people as far as us all being on the same page.

were going to want to meet him. >> steve: really? >> he looks very presidential. and both candidates were mingling with the crowd in a way that i've never seen before. president obama was the first sitting president there since 1984. but there was an excitement in the room. cardinal dolan has been critical of the president on the religious liberty issue. but i think he showed how we can come together in this country. he said listen, you don't just invite the people that you agree with. you invite everyone and you have a discussion. you do things that are for the common good, and this is for the common good. >> steve: one of the things i liked about last night was we've seen side by side, the president and mitt romney, now three times, two debates and last night. and mitt romney is not that wooden robot that the press and his -- the main stream media try to portray him as. >> he's threw with jay leno and letterman. he was very, very funny. >> steve: he killed it!
